SZENE HAMBURG: Wie wünschst du dir ein Hamburg der Zukunft?

Dannie Quilitzsch: Meine Vision ist eine Gesellschaft, in der alle einne Platz haben und die jeder mitgestalten kann. Ich liebe an Hamburg die Weltoffenheit und Toleranz. Man kann hier mit den verrpcktesten Ideen andere Leute begeistern und dann auch tatsächlich umsetzen. Insbesondere der Gestaltungswille der Hamburger hat mich immer schon begeistert: Sie sind stolz auf ihre Stadt und wollen mitreden, wenn es um Entscheidungen wie Olympia oder G20 geht. Was mir fehlt, ist ein Zusammenarbeiten der Sektoren. Die Prognosen über den Bevölkerungszuwachs und der Anstieg der damit verbundenen sozialen Herausforderungen sind bekannt, die Politik hat diese Themen auf ihre Agenda genommen. Parallel entstehen zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen und Projekte, trotzdem gibt es kein wirkliches Miteinander zwischen Politik, Wirtschaft und Zivilgesellschaft. Die Initiative Innovative City Hamburg will das ändern: Mit der Gründung von 100 Sozialunternehmen bis 2030 werden wir die drängendsten gesellschaftlichen Herausforderungen von Hamburg gemeinsam angehen.

Heute Nacht ist Wintersonnenwende. Besonders in der letzten Woche ist mir in Hamburg aufgefallen, wie es morgens eigentlich garnicht richtig hell wird. Für Menschen, die früh aus dem Haus müssen und den ganzen Tag arbeiten, ist es besonders hart, weil sie eigentlich überhaupt kein Tageslicht abbekommen, wenn sie nicht in der Mittagspause wenigstens einmal eine Runde um den Block laufen. In diesen Tagen bemerken wir am meisten, wie sehr uns das Tageslicht fehlt – für die Stimmung, für die Lebenskraft und nicht zuletzt für die Hoffnung. Alles ist leichter mit Licht. Für mich jedenfalls. Das muss aber nicht für alle so sein. Erst neulich hatte ich ein Gespräch mit jemandem, der die Dunkelheit sehr gerne mag. Weil man sich darin so gut verstecken kann. Weil sie einen umgeben kann wie eine wohlwollende Stille. Weil die Dunkelheit einem irgendwie Ruhe gibt und auch die Berechtigung, sich zuhause auf dem Sofa mit einer Tasse Tee einzukuscheln und ein gutes Buch zu lesen. Oder Tag zu träumen, sich Gedanken zu machen. Zu reflektieren und kontemplieren.

Die Wintersonnenwende ist aber nicht nur der Tiefpunkt der Dunkelheit, sie ist auch eine Zeit des Lichts. Weil es draußen früh dunkel wird, zünden wir im Haus Lichter an, in vielen Ländern werden zur Rückkehr des Lichtes Feste gefeiert. Ob das Diwali-Fest in Indien, das hindusitische Lichterfest, das 1-2 Monate vor der Wintersonnenwende gefeiert wird, Chanukka, das jüdische Fest zur Erinnerung an die Einweihung des zweiten Tempels in Jerusalem oder das nordeuropäische Julfest, das je nach religiöser Zuordnung zwischen der Wintersonnenwende und Anfang Februar gefeiert wird. In der vorkirchlichen Zeit wurde das Fest noch in der Mitte des Winters, also zwischen 12- und 14. Januar gefeiert, später auf den Termin der Geburt Jesu vorverlegt. Überall auf der Welt wird das Licht gefeiert und der Beginn eines neuen Zyklusses begrüßt.

Naturgemäß blicken wir in diesen Tagen zurück auf das hinter uns liegende Jahr. Die Wintersonnenwende ist daher auch oft der Beginn der traditionell überlieferten Rauhnächte. Da wir in der heutigen Zeit bis zum Heiligen Abend noch so viel zu erledigen haben, erst die Tage danach wirklich ruhiger werden und Zeit zur Inneren Einkehr erlauben, beginnen viele die Rauhnächte erst nach Heilig Abend.

Die Rauhnächte sind ein wunderschönes Ritual, sich bewusst zu machen, was im letzten Jahr alles passiert ist und was man sich vom nächsten Jahr wünscht. Die ruhigen Tage zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr, bieten sich wunderbar an, sich mit dem Rückblick auf das alte Jahr und den Wünschen und Plänen für das Neue Jahr zu beschäftigen.

Die Rauhnächte sind ein alter europäischer Brauchtum. Vermutlich haben sie ihren Ursprung in der Zeitrechnung nach einem Mondjahr. Ein Jahr aus zwölf Mondmonaten umfasst nur 354 Tage. Die auf die im Sonnenkalender 365 Tage fehlenden Tage wurden als “tote Tage” bezeichnet und der Mythologie nach wurde angenommen, dass die Gesetze der Natur außer Kraft getreten sind und somit auch die Grenzen zu anderen Welten gefallen sind. Deswegen diente diese Zeit früher dem Austreiben der Geister, dem Räuchern, oder der Wilden Jagd zur Mitte der Rauhnächte, heute Silvester, in der das Geisterreich geöffnet und Verstorbene sowie Dämonen Ausgang hatten und durch Bräuche wie das Böllern oder Feuerwerk vertrieben werden sollten.

Die Rauhnächte waren heilige Nächte, in ihnen wurde nicht gearbeitet, sondern nur gefeiert, beobachtet, und mit der Familie Zeit verbracht. Es war wichtig, in der Zeit der Rauhnächte alles in der Wohnung und sich selbst rein und sauber zu halten. Deswegen wurde bereits vor den Rauhnächten alles erledigt, am Tag des heiligen Tomas, der Wintersonnenwende wurde das Haus und die Stallungen ausgeräuchtert, um die bösen Geister zu vertreiben, damit sie die heiligen Nächte nicht störten. Am wichtigsten während der Rauhnächte war aber das genaue Beobachten: wie das Wetter war, was am Tage geschah, wie das Essen geschmeckt hat, ob gestritten wurde oder alles reibungslos verlief. Daraufhin wurden die kommenden Monate gedeutet – die erste Nacht steht für den ersten Monat oder auch das Sternzeichen Steinbock, die zweite Nacht für den Monat Februar oder das Sternzeichen Wassermann und so weiter.

Dieses Jahr werde ich meinen ersten Artikel für die Rauhnächte am Heiligen Abend online stellen. So könnt Ihr selbst entscheiden, ob Ihr am Heiligen Abend oder am 25. damit beginnen wollt. Die Tage vor Heilig Abend könnt Ihr dementsprechend in alter Tradition nutzen, die Wohnung von allem zu befreien, was im neuen Jahr nicht mehr gebraucht wird. Alles entrümpeln und noch einmal einen Großputz vor den heiligen Tagen machen. Vielleicht wollt Ihr sogar räuchern oder in jedem Zimmer ein paar Kerzen aufstellen und die alten Energien so aus Eurem Zuhause schicken.

Heute zur Wintersonnenwende wünsche ich Euch einen wunderschönen Abend! Kuschelt Euch auf dem Sofa zusammen, macht Euch ein paar Kerzen an und denkt an all Eure tollen Momente in 2017!

Tonight is winter solstice. Especially in the last week I noticed in Hamburg how it is not really light in the morning. For people who leave early and work all day, it’s especially hard because they actually do not get daylight unless they have a walk during lunch break. These days, we notice most of all the lack of daylight – for the mood, for the vitality and not least for the hope. Everything is easier with light.At least for me it is. But that does not have to be the same for everyone. Recently, I had a conversation with someone who likes the darkness very much. Because you can hide in it so well. Because shecan surround you like a benevolent silence. Because the darkness gives somehow peace and also the right to cuddle up with a cup of tea and read a good book at home on the sofa. Or to daydream, to think about stuff. To reflect and contemplate.
The winter solstice is not only the low point of the darkness, it is also a time of light. Because it is getting dark outside early in the evening, we light the house, and festivals are celebrated in many countries for the return of light. Whether the Diwali festival in India, the Hindu festival of lights celebrated 1-2 months before the winter solstice, Hanukkah, the Jewish festival commemorating the inauguration of the Second Temple in Jerusalem or the northern European Jul festival, which varies according to religious affiliation and is celebrated in early February. In the pre-church period, the festival was still celebrated in the middle of winter, between 12 and 14 January, later preposed to the date of the birth of Jesus. All over the world the light is celebrated and the beginning of a new cycle is welcomed.

Naturally, we are looking back at the year behind us in these days. The winter solstice is therefore often the beginning of the traditional Rauhnächte. Since we have nowadays so much to do in the last days before Christmas Eve, only the days after really bring quiet and allow time for inner contemplation, many start the Rauhnächte only after Christmas Eve.
The Rauhnächte is a beautiful ritual to realize what has happened in the last year and what you want from next year. The quiet days between Christmas and New Year are a wonderful time to look back on the old year and the wishes and plans for the New Year.

The Rauhnächte are an old European tradition. Presumably, they have their origin in counting the days in the lunar year. One year out of twelve lunar months only covers 354 days. The days missing from 365 days in the solar calendar were referred to as „dead days“ and according to mythology, it was assumed that the laws of nature have expired and thus the boundaries to other worlds have fallen. Therefore, this time was previously used to drive out the spirits, to do the smoking, or the Wild Hunt to the middle of the Rauhnächte, today New Year’s Eve, in which the spiritual world opened up and werwolves and demons were out and around and should be expelled by rituals such as the fireworks.

The Rauhnächte were holy nights, people did not work during those nights, but only celebrate, observe, and spend time with the family. It was important to keep everything in the house and yourself clean and tidy during the Rauhnächte period. Therefore, everything was done before the Rauhnächte, starting on the day of St. Tomas, the winter solstice, the house and the stables were wiped out to send away the old energies, so they did not disturb the holy nights. Most important during the Rauhnächte was the exact observation: how the weather was, what happened during the day, how the food tasted, whether there was arguing or everything went smoothly. As a result, the coming months were interpreted – the first night stands for the first month or the Capricorn, the second night for the month of February or the zodiac sign Aquarius and so on.

This year I will post my first article for the first Rauhnacht on Christmas Eve. So you can decide for yourself whether you want to start on Christmas Eve or on the 25th. Accordingly, you can use the days before Christmas Eve to free the apartment of everything that is no longer needed in the New Year. Declutter everything and once again make a large plaster before the holy days. You may even want to smoke or set up a few candles in each room and send the old energies out of your home.

So for tonight – enjoy the longest night of the year, cuddle on the sofa, light up some candles and think of all the great moments you had in 2017!

Yesterday I was invited to hold an IGNITE TALK at 12min.me in Hamburg. Many friends of mine from all over the world asked me whether they could attend via livestream but there was none. And as the audience was all German I held my speech in German. The video will be online soon but will not help my non-German-speaking friends. Therefor I decided to write this article in English so all my international friends can participate. Thanks Lisa for motivating me to do this!

In the last weeks I randomly thought about what I should tell people who don’t know me and what I do and what could be an anchor to build a bridge to my programme LOVE YOURSELF MORE. Especially in crowds where business is more in focus than personal development or even spiritual awakening I thought I would need something catchy to get their attention.

And then Donald Trump won the US election. In the first moment I was frustrated that this had really happened. Not really surprised as I had followed the latest happenings in UK and Europe with Brexit, Wilders in the Netherlands, Le Penn in France and even the AFD in Germany but that is another topic… What made me turn into a shock-like state was scrolling down my social media threat seeing how the people reacted. Almost everybody seemed to be surprised, shocked, panicked, even aggressive. This made me even more sad than the actual outcome of the election.

Suddenly I felt something like an inner voice saying : NOW is the time. You have to do something about this. Preserve the people around you from getting stuck in the fear and helplessness they seem to slide into. Be the light and show them how they can implode their own light as you already do. But be bigger. Enable others to trust in their own power and become active.  Be a peacemaker. Inspire your people to be peacemakers too. Ignite everyone you are meeting to be a peacemaker too. WE ARE THE ONES WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR.

When I woke up on the morning after the election I was not really surprised by the actual outcome. Observing what is happening in the UK with Brexit or in the Netherlands, France and even Germany where people with populistic and racist attitudes become more and more powerful Trump being the new president of the U.S. seems to only confirm that we are in a difficult state right now all over the world.

Scrolling down my social media threats I was really shocked seeing so many people trapping in the same attitude Trump is showing and being accused by so many of those who now do the same.

Deepak Chopra made a really good point in his article following the election day: (We have to) „…abandon the seductive allure of false consciousness, in particular the state of separation that engenders all divisions, either inside ourselves or in the outside world. We accept “us versus them” ultimately because there is a “them” inside ourselves. It consists of the shadow self we hide form and deny, which harbors hatred, fear, aggression, and the dread of death.“ ..“You must first see that the world’s wrongs have their seed in you. Only then does the familiar axiom of “Become the change you want to see in the world” stop being a cliché.“

But what does it really mean to „be the change you want to see in the world“?

Mahatma Ghandi made a clear point in the origin of the sentence saying „YOU MUST BE THE CHANGE“.

We have the responsibility to change to allow change happen in the world. If we do not start with ourselves but move on pointing our fingers to the others – the „them“ – we are part of the situation we are in.

I can already sense some of you stepping in resistance using excuses like „but what can someone like I really do“, or „why me, I did not do anything wrong“ or even „the situation is helpless, we will not be able to change it“.

I brought three different examples that I will present shortly to emphasize why each and everyone of us needs to understand that we are all in this together. Each and everyone of us can contribute to change our situation and I will show you how.

Mirror neurons are the neural basis of the human capacity for emotions such as empathy.

You all know the effects of this neuronal system: when you watch someone cutting vegetables and cutting his finger you shiver as if you would have cut yourself. For sure this also works for romantic emotions as well.

So think about your responsibility. It matters whether you walk around badmouthing or complaining all the time. Maybe next time before a meeting room you take a minute with yourself to drop your anger or bad mood before entering the room and effecting other people.

Masuro Emoto observed in his art project „Massages from Water“ from 1999 to 2008 that human consciousness is influencing water. They used water that was distilled twice which after giving it messages was frozen and then photographed under the microscope. Emoto used different massaging systems as giving good words, playing good music, and showing, playing, or offering pure prayer to water. They also made experiments with the opposite. The results are shown in the pictures here.

And now think about that our body contains approximately 60% water. Even if you will not call the experiments scientific you might understand that there is an influence of what we expose our bodies to. Imagine the difference of being in the quite nature vs in a busy city and what that does to the water in your body.

Just like how seismographs are used to measure earthquakes, Dr. David R. Hawkins developed a method to measure a person’s energetic frequency on a specific Vibrations Scale.

He used  a muscle-testing technique called Applied Kinesiology to determine where people are on this scale. The research was scientifically validated and published in Dr. Hawkins’ doctoral dissertation titled Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis and Calibrations of the Level of Human Consciousness, an elaborate discussion of the Scale of Consciousness and its significance as outlined in his groundbreaking book, Power vs. Force: The Anatomy of Consciousness (Veritas Publishing, 1995).The numbers on the scale are arbitrary, the significance lies in the relationship of the levels to another.

As you can see, feelings like love, joy and peace vibrate at high, uplifting frequencies, while heavy emotions like sadness, guilt or humiliation vibrate at low frequencies.

Hawkins pointed out that the world’s average energy level lies around the level of 200Hz which he assigned to the emotion pride. Compared to the levels below it this is the point where people start to feel positive. Due to it’s dependent on external conditions such as wealth, position or power this emotional level is also the source of racism, nationalism, and religious fanaticism. This makes it obvious why it is so important to take responsibility to uplift our personal vibration.

Love and joy are above 500 Hz. Naturally this is the level of vibration we are longing for. And it is not out of reach.

Let me give you some examples how you can start today to lift up your energy level.

Start meditating. Yes, I know. For most of you it will be tough in the beginning. Life seems so busy and time is running. But I have to tell you the truth. It is only that way because you are allowing it to be. Mainly it is a decision. And you do not have to get up at 4 o’clock in the morning to meditate. Why not use the waiting line in the supermarket or using the dish-washing up. Some people meditate in the public transport system, some go on a walk and breathe while walking in the woods.

The core is to focus on your breath for a moment. Even if it is only two minutes. Start focusing on your breath, stay with it, let thoughts come and go and whenever you are disctracted go back to your breath. It is a training like trying to build up a new muscle. And the results are magnificent: Meditating helps you reduce stress, deal better with daily situations, enhances health and sleeping skills, becoming more calm and happy with your life.

A very nice and easy way to uplift your energy is to write down things you are grateful for. As the neuronal system is reacting far more on it using a pen and paper I’d recommend that but there are also very nice apps like Gratitude 365 that make it very easy for you to upload a photo everyday and list what you were thankful on that day.

The feeling of gratitude is triggering the brain stem which then is pushing the production of dopamine, the hormone responsible to make us feeling happy. While looking for things we were enjoying through the day our hormone system additionally releases the hormone serotonin, another happiness hormone.  So by writing down things or even only looking for things we are grateful for we will biologically enlighten our mood and therefor lift up your energy. As easy as it is.

One of my favourite tools is creating rituals. I love those facebook posts of my good friend Sisa from the Yoga Hive very much, that’s why I choose the photo here. But it shell not give a wrong impression: sure yoga or meditation can be a very helpful and good ritual. But you do not have to build an altar or become spiritual to have a ritual. There are far more simple things you can come up with.

Furthermore it does not mean I have the same rituals month after month. Actually I have a few rituals I developed over the last years and do not want to miss in my life anymore. The one that is accompanying me for the longest time is simply brewing a cup of sleeping tea in the night before I go to bed. To be honest most of the time I do not even empty the cup, sometimes I actually not drink one single zip of it. But it helps me slide into the closing of the day, like sounding the bell for the night. Or during a time where my life was shaking a little bit which made me sleep badly and feeling stressed all the time. Those weeks I got up in the morning, brewed myself a huge cup of tea and still in my pyjama I left the apartment for a walk. Not jogging, not walking from A to Z with a goal. Simply strolling along the canal, enjoying the first 15 to 20 minutes for myself before starting the day.

Maybe you even have a ritual already without being conscious about it. For example taking the last minutes before a big presentation going through the most important points. Or like my friend and great coach Gianna Possehl who favours stepping into a hidden corner like Amy Cuddy to raise up her arms for a few minutes to get into the power pose and prepare for her performance.

Another easy but very effective exercise is to write down all the things that you love doing. Also the small things that make you happy. You can either keep the list somewhere to pop it out in moments when you feel sad and low and check what you can do to make yourself feel better. Or you can pro-active integrate more of those things in your daily life.

A similar tool is to write down things that you do every typical day. And then you compare it with the list above. Make sure that the things on the first list become more space in your life than the things you only find on the second list.

Hug each other! Although you might consider the cultural acceptance in your country or the field you are working in, hugging is – if used appropriately – always a very welcome tool to connect socially and by it make the other person and also oneself feel better.

Not only that hugs bring health benefits to your body and mind, according to a study in 2015 with 404 health students at the Carnegie Mellon university, hugging reduces stress and increases happiness. Stimulating pressure receptors while hugging will lead to increase in vagal activity, which puts the person being hugged in a relaxed state. Mainly the release of the hormone oxytocin is triggered by the vagus nerve which will have the effects of decreasing the heart rate and increasing the levels of the happiness hormones dopamine and serotonin.

Hugging can therefor even reduce depression and anxiety as it is biologically uplifting your energy level.

The easiest way to uplift your energy level is a simple smile.

According to scientific research of Robert Zajonc and his colleagues smiling leads to physiological changes in the brain which results in cooling the blood, which in turn makes people feel happy. Their expermiments have shown that you can cause the same effects of positive emotion and cooler facial temperatures when you make people say the letter “e” or the sound “ah” over and over again, as these sounds make the face form a smile-like expression.

And remember what I told you about the mirror neurons a few minutes ago: when you smile at someone the other person will probably spontaneously smile back because of the mirror system. This is indeed the most simple way of being a peacemaker. By smiling at a stranger or a close person you raise both of your moods AND lift up the energy not only of yourself but the other person too. Isn’t that wonderful! And imagine how often you can use your power to do that every day.

These were a few ideas how you can be a peacemaker with small tools right away.

Some of you might think: Well, what if I just do not feel happy and my smile is not sincere. You are right. You must feel it by the heart, not only will the other person recognize if it is not true but also can it effect your health when you are only faking smiles or happy feelings as it would surpress your true emotions. If so I invite you to come on a journey with me.

It was a process for many years until today for myself to realize what really makes my heart jump and find the one thing I want to do. Additionally I believe you can only speak about the NOW as you never know about tomorrow. I am feeling more like a student who is eager to learn and experience every day. And I cordially invite you to do the same if you feel your life needs a change.

In the last years I developed a coaching program which allows me to support and enable others to do the same. Love Yourself More illustrates a loop of four steps starting with finding your true desires and goals for your life. Followed by the next step where one has to accept and realize that the situation he or she is in right now is the result of decisions made before. That also means you can make new decisions in the next minutes that can change your life into another direction. In general this goes along with letting go of the old which takes place in the third module of the program. Like in every module we look at all levels body, mind and soul to detox from things you don’t need anymore to move forward into your new life. And last but not least you need to open your heart again to embrace the new that will show up at your doorstep giving you the opportunity to grow and develop.

Yesterday was the first day I woke up having overcome the in between time also called jetlag. Finally I feel arrived fully back at my home in Hamburg Lovetown. This morning I followed Lisas wonderful meditation and afterwards some of Mias tantric yoga class and although there are thousands of miles between us I felt really connected to these wonderful women who I spent one month of goddesses time with in Bali recently. For me those weeks were a very special time reconnecting with my female sources and awakening my female power. As a women leading my own company and directing another one I very often feel the male parts of myself taking over. It is wonderful to reconnect to the feminine side which we all have in ourselves, not only the women but also the men!! People who know me also know that I repeat the sentence of my teacher Biff Mithoefer regularly: The world needs more Yin! Especially the western world in which I decided to live in is so busy and always tries to achieve something next, almost never resting in the moment and indulging in the now, feeling gratetful for all the abundance that is – mother earth who gives us air, water, and soil, where our food is growing in, the sun that is giving us light and warmth everyday and also the moon that is shining her light in the dark. Practicing being thankful for all of this and reminding me of all the abundance and the gift called life in my meditation gives me the most fulfilling and loving feeling. So today we want to be thankful especially for the feminine power in our world. The yin. Connecting, sharing, creating, loving. Think of everything that seems feminine to you.
 
One of the feminine principles which we all should dive deeper into  is about fully accepting who we are. To be loved and appreciated for exactly how we are. Everybody is worthy to be treated and loved without having any expectations or wanting to change ourselves or the other person. I personally do not only want to empower the women but also the men today to allow that feminine side of ourselves to break through and shine bright!
 
Being back in my daily life after Bali I realize how tough it is to find time for meditation, yoga, reading, writing, doing my job that I love, seeing my friends and still do the things one have to do to get a daily life done. Thinking of all my goddesses in my life and realizing that each one of you is part of myself mirroring who I am, makes me deal with all of that in a better way. I am so thankful that the universe brought all of you and me together, especially when it comes to coincidences like recently on the beautiful island of Bali. I could not think of a better time, place and wonderful people to show me that everything is just a mirror of parts of ourselves – during these weeks meaning indulging in my femininity. What you are is what you get. Thinking of you and the abundance these goddesses and I shared in the beautiful place called Trinity Gardens in Ubud makes me more confident in my daily life, acknowledging that I am all that – that I am also each one of you, the wonderful time we had, the wonderful place we shared, the abundance of nature, love and spirit we experienced. I slowly and carefully get a feeling of what this trip really meant to all of us and that it prepared us to be the bold, shimmering, strong, kind, glowing, caring, nourishing, beautiful woman we are. Let’s always think of that espeacially in weak and tough moments we will have to go through. We are all that. We just have to remind ourselves sometimes, come back to ourselves and find our confidence, our trust in the universe that all comes for a reason. Awakening the female power here: trust and be confident that everything happens for a reason. Let go and follow your intuition. It is wonderful to realize how everything is connected in the end, how much abundance is in this world if we allow it and that the highest energy we are all made of is love. I am so happy and grateful for this experience with all of you.
Today let’s embrace the feminine side in all of us. Love ourselves and the others for who they really are. See the beauty and magic in ourselves and each of us if we allow our inner shimmering excitement of who we are to awaken and be seen.
